I’m Jon Kenyon, based locally to Exmoor National Park and have spent decades fishing and learning West Country rivers, particularly those of Devon and North Cornwall. My guiding is built on a deep understanding of wild river systems, seasonal conditions, and traditional methods applied thoughtfully and responsibly.

I began fishing these rivers at a young age and have continued to fish them consistently across seasons, water levels, and changing river conditions. Over time, this has developed into an intimate knowledge of how individual pools, runs, and beats fish at different heights and times of year, knowledge that only comes from long-term involvement rather than occasional visits.

My approach to guiding is calm, practical, and focused on understanding why decisions are made on the river. Whether guiding an experienced angler or teaching someone new to fishing, I aim to pass on transferable skills, reading water, choosing tactics, and adapting to conditions, rather than simply directing where to cast.

Much of my guiding centres around Exmoor rivers, including the East River Lyn, where I manage and fish a private stretch. I also guide on selected rivers across Devon (Taw and Teign Rivers) and Cornwall (Fowey and Camel Rivers), always choosing water based on season, river height, and suitability for the angler and method being used.

I guide using fly fishing, spinning, and bait fishing where permitted and appropriate. Methods are selected based on river conditions, species, and the client’s goals, with an emphasis on ethical fishing, fish welfare, and respect for the river environment.

I come with full public liability insurance and first aid training. Safety, risk assessment, and responsible decision-making are central to every guided day, particularly on spate rivers and remote sections of water.

Clients can expect an unhurried day on the river, honest advice, and attentive guidance tailored to their ability and interests. Success is measured not just in fish caught, but in improved confidence, understanding, and enjoyment of river fishing.

Above all, I value quiet rivers, thoughtful fishing, and sharing the knowledge that makes wild river angling so rewarding. Guiding allows me to pass on these skills while helping others experience West Country rivers at their best.

If you’d like to discuss guided fishing or tuition, I’m always happy to talk through options and help you decide what would suit you best.
